It’s official. The new Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement between the province and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has been signed.
A news release from the STF says the signing of the Agreement brings nearly two years of bargaining, including the most teacher job action in Saskatchewan’s history, to a close. STF President Samantha Becotte points out the contract includes a class complexity fund of $20 million per year and provisions to hire additional teachers to help address class complexity challenges.
The STF estimates over 500 new positions will be created as a result of this new article in the Agreement. The Arbitration Board also awarded teachers a salary increase of nine per cent over three years, with four per cent retroactive to September 1st of 2023, three per cent retroactive to September of 2024 and two per cent as of this coming September.
Education Minister Everett Hindley says, “We appreciate the work and collaboration of the bargaining committees to achieve this result and are pleased to have a new agreement that provides certainty for teachers, students and families.”
President of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, Dr. Shawn Davidson states that the Association appreciates all the work that has been done to come to this agreement. He adds, School boards can now move forward with the timely implementation of the agreement and focus on a successful conclusion to this school year.”
The Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee includes four people who represent school boards as employers on the committee, and five government representatives, as the funder of education.
