Saskatoon’s most popular recreation hub is getting a spring makeover. Tuesday morning brought the launch of the 44th annual Meewasin Cleanup Campaign.
Meewasin’s Community Events Coordinator, Katie Walls encourages the public to celebrate the warmer weather by cleaning up the valley that makes Saskatoon home to countless plant and animal species.
Anyone can volunteer to pick garbage, either as a group or an individual, online at Meewasin.com, as well as on Meewasin’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
Volunteers will be given garbage bags, gloves, information on how to pick garbage safely, and a map of all the garbage bins Loraas donated for the program’s use. Volunteers choose whatever area they are closest to to clean.
At the end of the campaign, Meewasin will release how many pounds of garbage was collected, how many volunteers took part, as well as how many hours they put in.
Walls says the campaign often sees about 3000 participants volunteer each year, with even more expected in 2025.
