There will be no summer holidays scheduled for Canadian Members of Parliament if Monday’s election favours the Conservative Party.
Pierre Poilievre spoke at TCU Place in Saskatoon Friday morning, stating that his government would instead utilize the summer months to pass three important bills.
“One, the Affordability for a Change Act. Two, the Safe Streets for a Change Act, and three, the Bring Home Our Jobs for a Change Act. Until these laws are passed, Parliament will not shut down for summer vacation. We need change. Change can’t wait, but the politicians’ vacations will have to wait.”
He says the Affordability for a Change Act will include a 15 per cent cut to income tax, putting nearly $900 back in the pockets of the average Canadian.
Poilievre also vows to scrap the ban on single-use plastics, which he says will save Canadians $400 on groceries per year in food waste.
He says the alternative to change is four more years of rising taxes, inflation, and housing costs under Mark Carney, who he claims will implement a policy that adds $20,000 to the cost of a new non-electric car in an effort to phase them out.
The Conservative party leader also claims the Liberals will tax Canadian auto dealerships for selling too many gas and diesel-powered vehicles and then use those profits to subsidize electric vehicle charging stations.
“It’s not my saying this. This is the government’s plan. The auto dealerships are going to have to pay a tax for the crime of selling too many gas- and diesel-powered vehicles. That tax will go in credits to electric vehicle companies to subsidize charging stations. One of the biggest recipients will be Tesla.”
Meanwhile, he says his government would axe the GST on Canadian-made automobiles, and scrap the Liberals’ electric vehicle mandate, which aims to phase out the sale of non-electric cars by 2035.
With a laugh, he invited Carney to take a road trip through the prairies in his Tesla.
