The Saskatoon Police Service is ramping up its efforts to increase awareness around fraud schemes.
Police say crypto-currency known as Bitcoin is often requested by fraudsters and scammers as a form of payment. A poster, the idea for which came from the Regina Police, and has been adapted to Saskatoon, will be placed above or near Bitcoin ATM’s throughout the city.
The Saskatoon Police Service reminds potential victims of fraud and store owners that government agencies do not and will not request any payment through Bitcoin. Crypto-currency is not regulated by the government or banks in Canada. Criminals will direct victims to ATM machines throughout Saskatoon for payment in these scams.
