A fire ban has been declared for areas north of the North Saskatchewan River within the boundaries of the City of Prince Albert including Little Red River Park and the Hazeldell and Nordale residential areas. The City says the fire ban was declared due to the Fire Weather Index current and predicting ‘Extreme’ conditions rating for the grasslands and forest fringe area.
For the duration of the ban, no open fires are permitted and fireworks are prohibited. For cooking and heating purposes, self-contained heating devices, gas barbecues, propane fire pits, charcoal briquettes used in park-provided barbecues and fire pits are all permitted.
Recreational use of approved fire pits within the City, south of the river, such as cooking fires in designated receptacles in Kinsmen Park, are not affected by this ban at this time.
This ban will remain in effect as long as extreme risk conditions remain.
