A former Premier of Saskatchewan is among the list of alumni from the University of Regina receiving an award. Since 1992, the U of R and its Alumni Association have recognized the achievements of its most accomplished graduates. The Honourable Reverend Lorne Calvert, who graduated from the university in 1973 and was Premier from 2001 to 2007. Calvert says, “To be recognized by one’s own school is as good as it gets.” The awards ceremony for the Alumni Crowning Achievement Awards was held on Wednesday.
The 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Lifetime Achievement recipient is the Honourable Rev. Lorne Calvert BA’73, former Premier of Saskatchewan. “Thinking of all of those who have graduated from the University of Regina, and then from among them having been chosen to receive this award is for me firstly surprising and then humbling! It is with much appreciation that I receive this award. To be recognized by one’s own school is about as good as it gets,” said Calvert.
Dr. Sarah Plosker BSc’08, MSc’10, is the recipient of the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Outstanding Young Alumni and a Canada Research Chair (CRC) in quantum information theory at Brandon University. “I am so very proud of this achievement! The fact that this recognition comes from the Alumni Association makes it extra special to me,” said Plosker. “My university experience played a vital role in shaping who I am today. Not only did I learn the foundational math that I need every day in my job as a professor, but I became a more well-rounded person through participation in extracurriculars.”
The 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Professional Achievement is the Honourable Graeme Mitchell, BA’75, BMus’75, Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan who earned an outstanding reputation as a lawyer, particularly with respect to Canadian Constitutional law.
Latoya Reid BSW’18, MSW’21, a registered social worker, community activist and leader who has focused her advocacy around one of today’s most important issues – anti-racism is the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Humanitarian and Community Service.
The 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Outstanding Service (Dr. Robert and Norma Ferguson Award) recipient Doug McKillop BAdmin’76 has had a long and distinguished career in the accounting profession and has been a tireless community volunteer, especially for the University of Regina Rams football club.
