If you would like to learn more about biodiversity, climate change, energy solutions or greenhouse gas emissions, the Saskatchewan Environmental Society hosts free monthly presentations in partnership with the Saskatoon Public Library.
Environmental Society spokesperson Caroll Chubb says the Sustainability Speakers Series has been happening for awhile, and used to be held in person at the library, but now they are digital.
The silver lining is that it means being able to entice speakers from further away. The next two presentations are an example of that.
Coming up on the October 19th, Dr. Gordon Edwards, who is from Ontario, will talk about uranium and the implications of nuclear energy.
He is the president of the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility,
Chubb notes that the province has been considering small nuclear reactors in its energy mix.
In November, Jason MacLean of the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick will talk about the future of climate action in
Saskatchewan following the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision that the federal government’s carbon pricing, also known as a carbon tax, is constitutional.
MacLean used to teach at the University of Saskatchewan.
The Environmental Society’s free speaker series is the second Tuesday of every month.
