The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is advocating for the family of a Saskatchewan woman whose remains were found last month in Vancouver. Twenty-four year old Chelsea Poorman of the Kawacatoose First Nation went missing in September of 2020. Vancouver Police don’t believe she was murdered.
The Police Department says in a news release that investigators believe Chelsea likely died on the property the night she disappeared or shortly thereafter, but went undiscovered because the house has been vacant for years.
The FSIN is calling on the Police Department to do a full investigation into Poorman’s death and to issue an apology to the family. Chief Bobby Cameron says the police must do more to investigate what truly happened to her. He adds that the Vancouver Police must issue an apology for their lack of action.
FSIN Vice Chief Aly Bear says, “We stand with the family of Chelsea Poorman as they continue to pursue justice for Chelsea.”
