After hammering the Maritimes, post-tropical storm Fiona has now moved inland into southeastern Quebec.
Environment Canada says the storm will weaken as it moves across southeastern Labrador and into the Labrador Sea.
More than 260 thousand Nova Scotia Power customers are still in the dark while over 82 thousand customers in PEI are without power this morning (sun).
In New Brunswick, over 20 thousand homes and businesses are without power. Some provinces say it could be days before electricity is back online.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau convened the Incident Response Group yesterday (sat) to discuss the ongoing impact of Fiona on the Atlantic and Quebec. In a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Trudeau was joined by senior officials who are actively working with their provincial counterparts and First Nation communities to assess Fiona’s impacts and offer support and assistance to those affected.
The group confirmed the readiness of key federal resources that may be deployed to provide support in the affected areas over the coming days, including the Canadian Armed Forces, the Canadian Coast Guard, and Transport Canada.
