Veteren Mike Messenger Signs a 1-Year Contract
“Mike is a unique player. He does a lot of different things well,” states general manager Derek Keenan. “He became our primary face off man last season. He’s capable of playing out both the D door and O door and is effective in either roll and is very good in 2-way transition. He also brings a strong physical presence.”
From Surrey, BC, the 6-foot-2 225lbs transition is heading back to Saskatchewan for another season. This past year Mike tied his 2019 season high nine goals and had a personal best with 15 assists.
Drafted 3rd overall by the Rush in the 2016 NLL Entry Draft, Messenger has been a part of Rush Nation for five seasons. In 82 games played, the right shot has scooped up 516 loose balls and tacks on 111 caused turnovers. On top of that Messenger has notched 36 goals and 39 assists.
“Mike Messenger is an integral part of the Saskatchewan Rush and we are thrilled to have him back wearing the green and black,” says associate general manager and head coach Jimmy Quinlan. “His role has grown each year since we drafted him and his ability to play various roles is an asset to the team.
