A docuseries which premieres tonight (Tues) follows wildland firefighters in Saskatchewan’s Indigenous and northern communities, and includes fighting the McCafe wildfire last summer near Stanley Mission, which burned more than 12,000 hectares. The province says in a news release that the series called Guardians of the North received a Creative Saskatchewan grant for $276,000. Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross points out that every dollar invested into this project is expected to generate an economic output of $4.65, resulting in a significant impact on Saskatchewan’s tourism, hospitality and trade industries.

The docuseries from Wavelength Entertainment, features personnel from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, Muskoday First Nations Fire Department and Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency management as they train and battle wildfires. The first of six episodes is tonight at 10 on City TV Saskatchewan.
