SGI says Saskatchewan police wrote 4,251 tickets in February and 3,767 of those were for exceeding the speed limit.
SGI says the faster a motorist is driving the more a speeding ticket costs. Last month 164 people were ticketed for exceeding the speed limit by more than 35 km/h and 35 for exceeding it by more than 50 km/h.
Meanwhile, 144 people got a ticket for exceeding 60 km/h when passing emergency vehicles or tow trucks with lights activated; 59 for speeding in a school zone; 26 for driving at a speed that is greater than reasonable and safe; 18 for stunting; and three for street racing.
Other results from the February traffaic spotlight include 613 tickets issued for distracted driving and 529 of those for using a cellphone. there were also 342 impaired driving offences including 212 Criminal Code charges with 130 roadside suspensions. As well, 416 motorists received a ticket for seatbelt and occupant restraints like a car seat.
