A strike deadline has been set for the 155,000 members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada. They are workers with the Treasury Board and the Canada Revenue Agency.
A statement has been issued by the union saying strike action will commence on April 19th if a deal can’t be reached by 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
If they walk off the job it would be one of the largest strikes in Canada’s history.
PSAC National President Chris Aylward says the two sides are still too far apart on several key issues including wages that keep up with the cost of living, job security and remote work language.
PSAC members have been without a contract since negotiations began with the federal government in June 2021.
The Union is warning that if federal public service workers strike it will result in slowdown or a complete shutdown of services nationwide including a complete halt of the tax season, disruptions to employment insurance, immigration and passport applications; interruptions to supply chains and international trade at ports, harbours, and airports; and slowdowns at the border with administrative staff on strike.
