The Saskatchewan Highway Hotline had 10.6 million website visits in the past year, which the Highways Ministry says is well above the average, but fewer than last year’s record, which was influenced by an unusual number of winter storms. The Highway Hotline smart phone app which was launched in November has been downloaded more than 100,000 times.
Highways Minister Jeremy Cockrill says the Hotline staff work closely with equipment operators to ensure drivers have up-to-date information. There were nearly 675,000 hits during the spring storm in April.
