A local podcast dedicated to shining a light on the unnoticed work of Saskatoon citizens is entering its 6th season.
Eric Anderson, the host, creator, and producer of YXE underground, says when he first started creating the podcast, he thought his only listeners would be his friends and family. Now, YXE Underground has 50,000 total downloads, a number that is unheard of for hyperlocal independent podcasts. Anderson has covered various topics such as homelessness, addiction, housing, healthcare, and education.
YXE Underground focuses on people who do great work in the community but would rather go unnoticed and therefor have not received recognition. Anderson says the hardest part of making the podcasts is scouting out the people that fly under the radar, and then making them talk about themselves for a half-hour.
This season features a podcast with the organizers of the Animal Safekeeping Program, which takes in the pets of people being abused at home and in need of relocating. Anderson also has a fundraiser for the organization, and he hopes to raise $1000 by selling pet bandanas and YXE Underground tee shirts.
The podcast can be found wherever you get your podcasts, such as Spotify, iTunes, or YXE Underground.com.
