The Father and Head of the world-wide Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church is in Saskatchewan right now from Kyiv to install the sixth Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon. Spokesperson Linden Predy says the Most Reverend Sviatoslav Shevchuk will lead three services, today (Fri) through Sunday, to nominate, consecrate and install the the Very Reverend Michael Smolinski.
The past year has been historic for the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Predy explains that six Bishops were created last year, with one from British Columbia and five from Ukraine. and now, Bishop Smolinski will be the seventh. He believes this is the highest number of Bishops consecrated for the Church in a century.
The world-wide Head of the Church will also tour the Ukrainian Bilingual School and will attend a special event to meet Ukrainians who have come to Canada fleeing the war. The Patriarch is in Saskatoon from through next Tuesday.
