Residential schools and 60’s scoop survivors, their families and supporters were honoured at this morning’s raising of the Reconciliation Flag at Saskatoon City Hall.

Civic as well as first nation’s officials addressed the large gathering about the importance of using this occasion as a starting point for change.

Saskatoon Tribal Chief Mark Arcand says this is the type of event that should be celebrated and resonate with first nation’s people.

Arcand also spoke of the importance to keep working toward reducing the number of Indigenous people who get incarcerated.

Arcand says producing more contributing members of society will reduce the stress on families and keep more first nation’s children out of the social service system.

City officials say since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Report, Reconciliation Saskatoon has grown to 88 member organizations.
