One of Saskatoon’s big summer events begins Thursday. It’s 25th Street Theatre’s Fringe Festival which continues through Saturday, August 10th both indoors and outdoors. The three indoor venues are Broadway Theatre, The Refinery and Cosmo Seniors Centre and the outdoor area is W. E. Graham Park behind Ecole Victoria School and along 11th Street
Executive Director of 25th Street Theatre, Anita Smith says this is the official 50th anniversary for the theatre company. It began in 1972 but wasn’t incorporated until 1974. To celebrate, there is a reunion Friday afternoon for anyone who has been a part of the theatre’s history. Smith notes that in just the past two years alone, 25th Street Theatre has worked with over 250 artists, so it could be a big crowd. After that, from 6 until 9, is a public event outdoors at the Fringe site, which includes a beer garden, and then it’s Fringe After Dark, extending the activities until midnight, for one night only.
Throughout the Fringe Festival, the outdoor activities are in W.E. Graham Park, which is behind Ecole Victoria School and along 11th Street. The three indoor show venues are Broadway Theatre, The Refinery. and Cosmo Seniors Centre. From noon to 10 this Saturday through Monday, the Fringe moves back on to Broadway Avenue with street performers, food, and outdoor shopping opportunities from local businesses.
