With construction work at 727 Hart Road as the backdrop this morning (Fri), the federal government announced funding from three different avenues, but all around affordability, for a total of over $75 million. The Hart Road project previously received $23.6 million to build 73 new homes and will be operated by Camponi Housing Corp. and SaskNative Rental Inc for homes with wrap-around services for Metis and First Nations people.
Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs and Minister responsible for PrairiesCan and CanNor, on behalf of Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, announced over $36-million in contributions and low-cost loans for 53 affordable housing projects in Saskatchewan through the Affordable Housing Fund to build and repair 788 homes. Vandal says the impact of this investment cannot be overstated. “It will help more our neighbours here to gain the safety and the stability of home.”
The Minister also announced almost $5.5 million for Humboldt, Moosomin, Outlook and the Buffalo River Dene Nation through the Housing Accelerator fund for 140 homes for these growing regions, which Vandal says will help spur the construction of 560 homes over the next decade.
The third announcement was over $34 million through National Indigenous Collaborative Housing Incorporated to help build over 1,100 housing units across Saskatchewan. The money goes to eight organizations including SaskNative Rental in Saskatoon, All Nations Hope Network in Regina and the Prince Albert Indian Metis Friendship Centre.
