Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, La Ronge RCMP were told that bear mace had been sprayed at a local sporting event. The Tony Cote Summer Games are being held in La Ronge right now Investigators determined a male youth deployed the bear mace, targeting another youth. Numerous people felt the effects and one was treated at the hospital.
Officers arrested a teenaged boy shortly afterwards in the vicinity of the event and anticipate charges will be laid in the coming days. Staff Sergeant Derek Eberle of the La Ronge RCMP says, “It’s very unfortunate that one individual chose to disrupt an event that so many have travelled to La Ronge to enjoy. Investigators have determined this was a targeted, isolated incident involving individuals unconnected to the event.” The RCMP are working with organizers to ensure the rest of the Games are safe for all attendees.
