Farmers across the prairies are hoping for warm, dry weather as their crops are reaching full maturity, but according to Environment Canada, Saskatchewan could be in store for some severe storms over the next two days.
Meteorologist Terri Lang says with the possibility of severe weather, there is a high chance of flooding rains, large hail, strong winds, and tornados, which are most likely to occur on Wednesday. All of these forces, hail especially, would be detrimental to crop yields.
She attributes the weather pattern to the late-August heatwave that is grasping the region.
“We are running about average for this time of year. Average temperatures from 30-year averages are around mid- to high-twenties.” Today’s high is 33.
The potential for severe storms will wrap up Wednesday evening, bringing cooler temperatures for Thursday and Friday. The heat returns for the weekend, and so does the possibility of showers.
