The Saskatoon Police Service has been called to five incidents involving bear spray in under 24 hours. Thursday at 8:10 a.m. officers responded to the 1300 block of Idylwyld Drive North to a report of an injured person after they had been bear sprayed in a house. When police arrived the suspect had fled the scene, but officers found a male who’d been bear sprayed and was treated by paramedics on scene. A suspect is still at large.
About 12 hours later at 8:00 p.m. police responded to a report of an injured person in the 3100 block of Laurier Drive and located a 74-year-old man who had been bear sprayed. Again, the suspects fled the scene before police arrived and the victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.
About 20 minutes later police were called after someone was bear sprayed while using city transit. Arriving officers spoke with the victim as other officers began searching the surrounding area for the suspects. Paramedics arrived and treated the victim on scene; however, officers were unable to locate the suspects.
At 9:10 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a man being bear sprayed in the 3300 block of Fairlight Drive. Police say the investigation is ongoing and officers are currently working to retrieve video surveillance of the incident.
And Friday morning around 5:20 a.m. officers were called to the 300 block of Circle Drive West for a report of an injured person. Call details stated a male had been bear sprayed. Paramedics treated a man at the scene, but police say the victim did not wish to proceed with any further investigation.
