Update: SaskTel hasn’t sent out an announcement saying that the service has been restored, but its website says there are no outages (as of 5pm Fri.).
Previous: There is a service outage impacting SaskTel internet, television and landline phone service for several customers in downtown Saskatoon, because of some infrastructure damage suspected to be from vandalism. SaskTel spokesperson, Greg Jacobs says around 5 this morning (Fri), someone broke into a pedestal along 2nd Avenue South and ripped out or damaged cabling inside and that caused the outage, affecting about 150 of the Crown Corporation’s customers in the downtown area. Pedestals are the boxes you see in neighbourhoods or back alleys and they house the cabling that serves the homes and businesses in the area. Jacobs says the box appears to have been pried open.
Crews are working to repair the damage, but there is no estimated time yet for when that will be completed. SaskTel apologizes for the inconvenience and says crews are working to restore services as quickly as possible.
