Saskatoon Police have charged a 44-year-old woman in relation to an an investigation into a report of an assault at Legacy Christian Academy, which is now called Valour Academy. The victim and the woman knew each other through their affiliation with the institution. The 44-year-old woman from Saskatoon turned herself in to the police on Monday. Officers with the Interpersonal Violence Section of the Saskatoon Police Service have charged her with assault with a weapon.
Legacy Christian Academy was previously called Christian Centre Academy, which is at the centre of a $25 million civil lawsuit by a group of former students. Prior to this latest charge, four other staff members had been charged. Last fall, a former coach, Aaron Benneweis, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a student and was sentenced in January to two years less a day in jail. Two former principals, 65-year-old Duff Friesen and 63-year-old John Olubobokun are facing multiple counts of assault with a weapon and have pleaded not guilty. Seventy-four-year-old Ken Schultz is facing charges of sexual assault and assault with a weapon and he too has pleaded not guilty.
