The provincial NDP says the Sask. Party is pressing on with the hiring of Marshals despite hearing concerns from over 90 communities and organizations.
On September 13th, a job posting for the position went live, revealing that there are 20 Marshal positions needing to be filled by October 1st.
The main concerns communities have with the new Saskatchewan Marshals Service are the lack of oversight, integration with existing police and the unknown price tag. The government has mentioned that the service will cost roughly $20 million per year.
The NDP news release reminds the public that their party has committed to supporting the hiring of RCMP officers, launching an Unexplained Wealth Taskforce to target organized crime and drug traffickers, and protecting families, small businesses and places of worship with an $2.0 million rebate program for security updates.
