Hockey “coach-speak” says there are “good single points” earned when losing a game that goes beyond regulation time while there are also “bad single points” in similar situations.
On Saturday night, the Saskatoon Blades picked up a “good point” in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Everett Silvertips at SaskTel Centre!
The Bridge City Bunch appeared to be headed to a second regulation time setback in as many nights when they entered the final five minutes of the third period trailing the ‘Tips 4-2. But, Hudson Kibblewhite and Grayden Siepmann scored 2:05 apart to force a fourth period, before Tyler McKenzie scored at 3:02 of extra time off a goal-mouth scramble to give Everett their second O-T win in as many nights to start their East Division road trip. It was the 20-year-old McKenzie’s second goal of the game as the Silvertips improved their overall season record to 4-1-0 while scoring three power play goals on five chances. Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, product and Tips’ defenceman Tarin Smith had two assists while 15-year-old blueliner Landon DuPont, who is an Everett regular because of being granted “Exceptional Status” by the W-H-L and Hockey Canada, chipped in with a helper as the Silvertips out-shot the Bridge City Bunch 32-22. Blue and Gold 16-year-old rookie Zach Olsen notched his first W-H-L goal and assisted on fellow 16-year-old freshman forward Cooper Williams’ fourth of the season. Blades’ captain and defenceman Ben Saunderson had a pair of assists as well. Now 4-1-1 for the season, Saskatoon remains at home for games Friday and Saturday against the Spokane Chiefs and defending league champion Moose Jaw Warriors, respectively. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Dan Da Silva and Olsen plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L website…..
