Regina Police say a suspect wanted on a warrant barricaded himself in a basement suite of a home late Monday afternoon and threatened to set fire to the residence in the 1500 block of Montague Street.
Police say they also received information which suggested the man had weapons. This all got underway around 4:15 p.m. Monday.
The Crisis Negotiation Team was called in with Regina Fire and Protective Service and EMS on standby. Police set up a perimeter while traffic in the area was shut down and the public was notified.
While negotiation was ongoing Regina Police say the suspect poured gasoline and lit the entry points of the suite on fire. Regina Fire and Protective Service immediately put out the fires. Police report the male continued to refuse to surrender and continued to cause damage to the residence.
SWAT was requested and at approximately 10:50 p.m., the suspect exited and was taken into custody. Thirty-five-year-old Chance Elroy James Oochoo, of Regina was arrested on his existing warrant, and charged for arson, possessing incendiary material, and mischief for destruction of property. He is in Regina Provincial Court this afternoon.
