It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
The Fearless Predictor was 1-for-2 with his Semi-Final Saturday picks in the C-F-L – and quite pleased that the result I picked wrong involved the Riders’ home win over B-C!
The biggest play of Saturday’s Saskatchewan victory was the decision by head coach Corey Mace to go for the two-point conversion after the Trevor Harris touchdown pass to Jerrith Sterns just beyond the three-and-a-half minute mark of the fourth quarter. Mace must have heard me yelling at the T-V in the Langley, B-C hotel room of Blades’ bus driver Mike McElliigott – and I have McElliigott and Jerome Engele as witnesses when I said that going for two was a no-brainer. You make it and it becomes a two-score lead for the Roughriders. Don’t get it and you’re still up by seven points and B-C isn’t likely to try a two-point convert for the lead if they score a touchdown, so you’re tied! When the Green and White got the two points on an easy Harris pass to KeeSEan Johnson, the Lions became a desperate team – and they really didn’t have to be with 11 minutes and change remaining! But, Vernon Adams Junior made bad decisions and tried to go too far downfield, resulting in two interceptions by the Riders that ended B-C’s season and kept Saskatchewan’s going! I’ve been telling you for years that I’m an all-around athletic supporter, not just a hockey guy!!
When does Jerry Jones do the right thing and fire himself as general manager of the N-F-L’s Dallas Cowboys?! Of course, that’ll never happen – and I’m actually fine with that as “America’s Team”, ugh, are 3-5 and a long ways away from catching a playoff spot!
Meanwhile, my Minnesota Vikings got back in the win column – their 6-2 record has them sitting pretty in an N-F-C wild-card playoff spot. Then, there’s my Winnipeg Jets in the N-H-L with an 11-1 record! Of course, they’ll lose some games – but the points now count just as much as they do late in the regular-season!!
In other words, my life as a pro sports fan was very good! So good that I have no trouble saying…
…That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk in Langley, B-C…and it turned out nice again!
