Two people are facing charges in connection to a stolen truck which struck the side of a police vehicle. Last Thursday, Hudson Bay RCMP found a stolen vehicle in the backyard of a home in that community. It had been reported stolen from Nipawin November 2nd.
Police report that when officers approached with their emergency lights on, the truck started up, accelerated and struck the front passenger side of the police vehicle, disabling it, and then hit it again. The occupants refused to get out and continued to try to flee in the truck, but officers broke one of the windows to get access to inside the vehicle. Police say while the driver continued to try to get away, a conducted energy device was deployed, and he and the passenger were arrested.
The charges for 22-year-old James Whitehead and 30-year-old Sabrina Kelly of Tisdale include possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and obstructing a peace officer. Whitehead’s charges also include assaulting police officers with a weapon, failing to stop for a peace officer, dangerous driving and resisting arrest.
RCMP recovered a number of items believed to be stolen from the vehicle and are working to see if they have been reported stolen from the Hudson Bay area. If you’ve had anything stolen recently, RCMP advise you to report it to police.
