Gavin McKenna may have extended his lead atop the W-H-L scoring race Tuesday night at SaskTel Centre, but the Saskatoon Blades extended their lead atop the East Division and Eastern Conference standings by out-scoring McKenna and the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-3.
Still a month away from his 17th birthday and not eligible for the N-H-L Draft until 2026, McKenna had a goal and two assists as the Bengals led 3-2 before the four minute mark of the second period, only to have the Bridge City Bunch rally for their third straight win, upping their record to 14-5-2 for 30 points, four ahead of Swift Current who lost 3-1 Tuesday to visiting Tri-Cities. The Blue and Gold also extended their head-to-head winning streak over Medicine Hat to 14 games. Brandon Lisowsky broke a 3-3 tie with a power play goal just past the mid-point of the second period, the third lead change of the game – and the last one as the Blades locked down defensively, backed by Evan Gardner’s 31-save goaltending. David Lewandowski, Rowan Calvert (pictured), Tyler Parr and Misha Volotovskii scored the other goals for Saskatoon. Parr and Calvert each added an assist for two-point nights. Lisowsky’s goal was his 10th of the season and the 131st of his career, tying him with Brent Ashton for ninth place on the all-time franchise goal-scoring list. As well, 20-year-old defenceman Grayden Siepmann recorded his 100th career point when he assisted on Calvert’s goal. The Tigers, now 12-10-0 for the season, out-shot the Bridge City Bunch 34-29. They’ll visit the Prince Albert Raiders Wednesday night while the Blue and Gold travel to Moose Jaw on Thursday. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Dan Da Silva, Calvert and defenceman Tanner Molendyk plus the official game summary from the W-H-L website…..
