It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend C-F-L Short Shots…..

In the wake of Toronto defeating Winnipeg in last Sunday’s Grey Cup Game, the C-F-L has been anything but quiet when it comes to eye-raising news! The headlines went from – Edmonton Elks name Ed Hervey general manager to B-C Lions move on from Rick Campbell, promote Ryan Rigmaiden to G-M to B-C Lions confirm Vernon Adams Junior will be traded, won’t give Q-B a say to Edmonton Elks granted permission to interview Rick Campbell for head coaching vacancy says report to Ed Hervey vows to fix “laughing stock” Edmonton Elks, threatens dissenters to Hamilton Tiger-Cats to interview Winnipeg’s Ted Goveia, Danny McManus for G-M job.

The last headline initially caught me by surprise as I must’ve missed the fact that Orlondo Steinauer was no longer the Tabbies general manager, then I remembered he was punted upstairs by Hamilton owner Bob Young. I’d hire former star C-F-L quarterback McManus – then again, why not go with the relatively unknown – at least to the public – Goveia?!

The rest of those headlines centre around B-C and Edmonton – places where there’s new or relatively new ownership. The newest owner is Larry Thompson with the Elks and that franchise being out of the playoffs two straight years doesn’t sit well with him – as it shouldn’t. New G-M Ed Hervey gets to hire a new head coach and Rick Campbell would be a great choice – even though it’s another re-cycled C-F-L coach being spun on the coaching and management carousel that seems so prevalent in many pro sports! What’s wrong with trying some new blood? Like the Saskatchewan Roughriders did with Corey Mace?!

In B-C, Amar Doman took over stewardship of the Lions in August of 2021 and grew tired of waiting for Rick Campbell to lead the team to a Grey Cup title – going so far to say that Campbell underperformed after Doman gave him all the tools! Ouch, I guess the owner was a little embarrassed to not have his team play in the Grey Cup! Okay, a lot embarrassed!!

The good news for Rider Nation? None of it involves the Green and White!…..
