If approved during 2025 budget deliberations that commence tomorrow, additional expenditures of nearly $750 thousand could mean a slightly higher property tax for Saskatoon residents than what was originally expected.
The original 2025 preliminary budget, approved in November, proposed a property tax increase of 5.64 per cent. The City of Saskatoon has since reviewed that document and made adjustments to both the expense and revenue columns. These changes led to $748 thousand in additional expenditures, resulting in a proposed property tax of 5.84 per cent.
Mayor Cynthia Block says the primary reason for extra expenses was police expenditures. Block says if it were not for $1.5 million to fund new uniforms, vehicles, and equipment for the 37 police officers the province is funding, the property tax would be lower than originally predicted.
Between December 2nd and 4th, City Council will be in Chambers reviewing the 2025 Preliminary Approved Budget, as well as the proposed adjustments.
