As of this morning (Wed), crews have completed grading and rut levelling on 70 per cent of all of Saskatoon’s neighbourhoods. The work began Sunday afternoon to address the severe rutting caused by the weekend rain which then froze. The goal is to complete all of the grading by the end of the week, which the City of Saskatoon says crews are on track to meet.
However, Mayor Cynthia Block says the snow and ice in the parking lanes won’t be hauled out afterwards. That’s because of the cost. She explains that each load is $200.and at 100,000 tonnes that’s $20 million. Block says there needs to be a balance between having safer roads and being cost effective.
Some streets have been temporarily skipped, often because of lack of access because of all the parked vehicles. Parking restrictions will be put in place and then the streets will be revisited. Go to the City’s website for the neighbourhood grading schedule.
