The Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre says demand for services has reached unprecedented levels, with a 25 per cent increase in usage from October of last year to this year. Laurie O’Connor realizes that as many are preparing for a festive holiday, putting food on the table is increasingly challenging for thousands of people in the community.
The Food Bank & Learning Centre is at the halfway point of its Light It Up” Holiday Campaign and as with many non-profits, their fundraising efforts during the raise a significant portion of their annual budget. O’Connor has a few suggestions as to how you can help. You can make a donation online, or you can pick up a free Light It Up fundraising kit which includes a 5-foot Christmas tree poster to put up at your business or organization, and add a light bulb sticker for every donation, then share your progress on social media, or you could organize a food drive. The Food Bank’s most wanted items include baby food and formula, canned fruits and vegetables and hearty soups.
