The Saskatoon Fire Department was busy yesterday as they attended two separate calls; one for a suspicious package, and the other for a structure fire.
The first call came in at 12:37 p.m. in the 800 Block of 51st Street East. A HAZMAT team was called to the Canada Post Office building and entered the structure to identify a product found inside a suspicious package.
The team tested and determined that the product was found not to be a hazard, but the scene was turned over to police for further investigation.
Then, at 1:32 p.m., the fire department was called to the 1200 Block of Avenue E North. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames exiting the structure. The fire has since been completely extinguished, and all occupants got out safely. A fire investigator is working to determine cause and origin.
