Prince Albert RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, which had been stolen outside a business south of Prince Albert. The Prince Albert Police Service was alerted and around 3 a.m., the vehicle was located by a patrol officer who attempted a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 3200 block of 2nd Avenue West. P.A. Police say the vehicle backed into the patrol vehicle and then sped off, heading outside of town.
The vehicle was found in the city again a few hours later. An officer approached the vehicle and tried to arrest the female passenger when a male got into the driver’s seat and took off, dragging the officer for a short distance. The officer wasn’t seriously injured. Prince Albert Police located the vehicle again a few minutes later but it continued through the city at a dangerous speed, so for public safety the vehicle wasn’t pursued.
That afternoon the stolen vehicle was found at Sturgeon Lake First Nation. RCMP attempted yet another traffic stop but the vehicle fled. Officer continued to try and pull it over and then it landed in a ditch. The passenger was arrested and the driver fled on foot but was later arrested without incident. From the RCMP investigation into what happened in their jurisdiction, 36-year-old Darcie Caisse of Prince Albert is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and flight from a peace officer.
Twenty-five-year-old Brice Bird, also from Prince Albert, is facing charges that include the same two charges as Caisse, along with dangerous driving, resist/obstructing a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with release order conditions.
