This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk.  Spring officially arrived yesterday.  In addition to the melting of all that snow we accumulated this winter, another sign of spring seems to be the speed people are driving.  At least it appears that way, I guess because the main roads are generally in good shape without a buildup of ice or snow. I just want to point out that in terms of Photo Speed enforcement – last year led to 55,270 tickets in 2024.  That’s the most in the last five years.   The data was presented to the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners (Thursday). There 29,605 issued for speeding on Circle Drive while 25,665 were handed out in school zones.  I don’t have an issue with the photo speed enforcement, but red-light cameras make me nuts.  I can’t count the number of times I’ve approached an intersection which has one and have slowed to crawl ticking off everyone behind me because I don’t if I’m on a stale green. There were 15,695 Red Light Camera tickets issued in Saskatoon in 2024. I absolutely believe every intersection with a red-light camera should have a countdown on the walk sign. Just as an FYI, In Saskatoon red light cameras are located at Preston Avenue and 8th Street, Warman Road and 51st Street, Avenue C and Circle Drive, and 33rd Street and Idylwyld Drive. Oh, and another sign of spring – puddles, be nice – don’t splash pedestrians.
