The number of bridges in Saskatoon has grown by two with the Chief Mistawasis Bridge opening to the public Tuesday and the Traffic Bridge set to open Wednesday.
The Chief Mistawasis Bridge connects the city’s industrial park with the city’s eastside.
The new bridge will help alleviate the amount of traffic on the Circle Drive Bridge and will offer residents living in Evergreen, Aspen Ridge and other surrounding communities a new way to access the northend.
Premier Scott Moe says it’s not only a good day for Saskatoon but the whole province of Saskatchewan and the country.
He says the province is leading the country when it comes to the relationship between the government and Indigenous people.
The name of the bridge, Chief Mistawasis was named in the spirit of reconciliation and the Mistawasis First Nation happens to be in Premier Moe’s constituency of Rosthern-Shellbrook. The bridge was completed on schedule and within budget.
The opening of the two bridges in the bridge city this week means that a total of 14 lanes of traffic have been added across the river over the last five years.
