The War Amps is sending out this year’s key tags across the country. Spokesman James Jordan encourages Saskatchewan residents who have received key tags to put them on their key chain right away.
“How it works is there’s a 9-digit confidential number on the tag that’s linked to your name and address; so if you’re to ever lose your keys wherever you are, the person that finds them just has to drop them at any mailbox or they can call the 1-800 number on the back; and we will identify who’s keys they are, send a courier to pick them up and deliver them back to the person that lost them.” he explained.
Jordan says the service is more important than ever with the high replacement cost of keys and remote devices. People can use the free service if they want. “We obviously do encourage and appreciate donations that do come in, especially when people do lose their keys and they get them back in the mail, that’s when we see people will donate a few dollars.”
More than 1.5 million sets of keys have returned to their owners since the service began in 1946.
