Students from Nutana Collegiate now have their art displayed in their community. A group of 10 students from the school collaborated with Elder Harry Lafond to create the design of a new bus shelter located at 12th Street and Broadway Avenue.

The design of the shelter is inspired by traditional Indigenous teachings and features trees and birds along with many other traditional designs. Grade 12 student, Faith Willetts says it was a lot fun working on the project and that it’s amazing to have it displayed in the Nutana community.

This is the second bus shelter in Saskatoon that was created by students. Another shelter located on Clarence Avenue across from Aden Bowman is a Metis inspired piece that was created in collaboration with students from the high school.

Elder Lafond says he’ll help work on another project if he’s asked to and he adds the shelter on Broadway and 12th allowed the students who worked on it to contribute to their community and to express who they are.

Willets adds she’s happy the shelter will keep people warm while they wait for the bus on a rainy day like Thursday.
