The Mayor of Prince Albert says he will be announcing his five year plan during next month’s state of the city address.
Although Greg Dionne didn’t confirm he is seeking re-election to a third term in November 2020 he did say the city’s paving program will continue with work on another 30 streets next year.
Dionne points to construction beginning on two new rinks and the aquatic centre announced just before the federal election in partnership with the provincial government as a boost to the city’s economy next year.
However Dionne says the city needs a revival of the local forest industry to thrive again.
The mayor says planning will be ramped up in 2020 for the new 45-hundred seat facility to replace the Art Hauser Centre with the vision of the venue becoming an entertainment centre as well as home to the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders.
Dionne hopes it could attract 10 major events a year in addition to trade shows and rodeos.
He lists the ongoing campaign for a new hospital, the development of a new U-of-S Campus downtown in the Forestry Building and Rio Tinto announcing its option in the Fort a La Corne diamond play among the highlights of 2019.
Dionne also says council has moved on from the divisive 5-4 vote approving the budget for the coming year.
