16 Physical Distancing Ambassadors have begun work throughout Saskatoon’s 200 parks.
Lynne Lacroix, General Manager of Community Services with the City of Saskatoon, says the primary goal of the ambassadors will be to promote education and awareness of the health orders that are currently in place. She adds that the ambassadors will be ensuring that signage and yellow warning tape for play structures remains in place. Lacroix explains the vast majority of residents are making good decisions for themselves while in parks, but there are a number of reports of signs being taken down. Part of the concern with this, she says, is if people go to a park location without a sign, they might presume the playgrounds are open.
The park ambassadors are re-deployed staff from the city’s leisure centres, including some lifeguards. Ambassadors have been divided into 8 different sections of the city and will be in parks 7 days a week, generally during hours most frequented by park goers. The ambassadors, she says will look to ensure the safety for everyone who comes to the park and she hopes people will acknowledge them with kindness and respect.
